French
At SACS we recognize that the world has become much ‘smaller’ since our inception in 1829. International journeys last hours rather than months, communications to loved ones overseas can be sent and received instantaneously and languages once limited to a country have become valuable internationally. The aim of the French Department at SACS High School is to not only help young men become influential and successful within South Africa but to help them become influential and successful internationally.
The French language is of vital importance around the world: it is spoken in over 50 countries. Moreover, this beautiful language is becoming more and more valuable on the African continent due to economic growth amongst the more than 20 francophone (French-speaking) countries there. This means that the skills of speaking and understanding French are becoming more and more sought after in several areas of commerce and industry within South Africa.
Let us not, however, forget that French is one of the most beautiful languages in the world. It is a language deeply rooted in art, literature, music and gastronomie (food and drink)!
Boys seeking to learn French at SACS High School will enter a department whose focus is to produce young men who are capable of speaking, reading, writing and understanding French. These skills are developed throughout their French career at SACS. By the time they reach the end of their Matric year, our hope is that the SACS men studying French will be able to competently understand and make themselves understood in a wide variety of situations and transactions both in the written form and orally.
Boys choosing French at SACS High School will have their horizons broadened and their credentials strengthened. They, and their parents, will find it to be a truly enriching experience.
